CIPS Examinations (CBE)

With the implementation of the new syllabus, CIPS has also introduced Computer Based Examinations for all modules. This means that students will be using a computer at a CBE testing centre to complete their exam. CIPS research has suggested that 90% of students prefer CBE exams to paper based examinations. CBE exams have 2 formats:

Objective Response [OR] - Single, short questions that require the candidate to choose or type a response to the question where the correct answer(s) are predetermined. These are auto marked. There are typically 15 available sitting options per OR exam during the OR exam week.

Constructive Response [CR] - Constructed response questions require the student to create ‘construct’ a response to the question, such as an essay by typing their response. There is only one sitting for a CR exam during the CR exam week.

Benefits of CBE:

  • There are now more exam opportunities per year (6) compared with the paper-based exams
  • There are as much as 15 opportunities to sit on OR exam during the OR exam week (which offers flexibility for working persons)
  • You can receive results more quickly with CBE examinations
  • You can now receive feedback on your exam performance
