Overview

Develop some of the most sought-after skills in the industry while earning an internationally recognised BSc (Hons) Information Technology from the University of Bedfordshire. This course is aimed at providing learners with practical and hands-on experience of developing IT systems. This will focus on many areas of technology and how they can be deployed to provide systems that can help support organisations achieve their overall business objectives. As such, you will learn how to interact with non-IT specialists to deliver IT solutions that support a wide range of business functions. Specifically, you will develop the knowledge and skills to draw out user requirements from non-IT experts and transform these into system level designs that can then be implemented. You will learn how to lead IT project, as well as the skills needed to perform effectively within a multi-faceted scheme.

Course Details

The programme consists of 3 levels (Levels 4, 5 and 6) with each level consisting of 4 units each worth 30 credits.

Additionally, there is a bridging programme for persons who don’t meet the entry requirements to start at any of the higher levels (Level 4, 5 or 6). The bridging programme consists of one unit which runs each semester. Students who have successfully completed the bridging programme can enrol directly into Level 4 (Year 1).

How will I be Assessed?

Students are assessed in a variety of ways. Units are assessed through coursework, group and individual projects, portfolios, essays, presentations or exams. Presentations are usually given and assessed in the context of a group seminar. Students are also required to develop software artefacts.

Entry Requirements

Candidates may start at any of the levels once they satisfy the entry requirements. All applications are considered on a case by case basis.

Level 4

Successful candidates should possess any ONE of the following:

  • At least 2 years IT work experience
  • CAPE passes
  • Any previous tertiary qualification
  • IT Certifications
  • Successfully completed Bridging Programme
Ideal for persons who have some IT work experience or have CAPE passes
Level 5
[Year 2]

Successful candidates should possess any ONE of the following:

  • A Level 4 Diploma qualification in IT
  • CAPE passes with 2+ years IT Work Experience
  • Combination of IT Work Experience (at least 2 Years), Academic and/or Professional Qualifications
Ideal for someone who has previously completed a Level 4 IT qualification (Certificate or Diploma Qualification) or Persons with a combination of IT work experience who also possesses Professional (IT) Certifications.
Level 6
[Year 3]

Successful candidates should possess any ONE of the following:

  • A Level 5 Diploma or HND or Associate Degree in IT
  • Combination of IT Work Experience (at least 4 Years), Academic and/or Professional Qualifications

Ideal for persons who have completed a Level 5 IT qualification such as a Diploma, HND or Associate Degree

Persons with extensive IT work experience who also possesses Professional (IT) Certifications.

Intake Periods

There are three entry points which allows you to start when it is most suitable. The entry points are:

  • February
  • June*
  • October

Each entry point corresponds to the start date of the semester. Depending upon when you join the course, this will determine the order of units which you will study. You will benefit by beginning your studies with others who started at one of the earlier points of entry.
