CTS College Wins the TTSEC's Tertiary Level Debate Competition 2017

CTS College was crowned the Debate Titans 2017 on November 2, 2017, after winning the finals of the debate competition organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission (TTSEC).

The motion debated was "Be it resolved that in the interest of investor protection the TTSEC's regulatory focus should be on enforcement." CTS College argued for the motion while the other finalist, Institute of Law and Academic Studies (ILAS) argued against. The battle was shrill, the debate was passionate, patriotism surrounded the atmosphere, articulation and wit filled the podiums and in the end when the smoke cleared the CTS College debate team emerged victorious!

The TTSEC Tertiary Level Debate Competition included participation by the following teams:

• University of the West Indies - Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business
• Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies
• University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Association of Postgraduate Students
• The UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Limited (UWI-ROYTEC)
• CTS College
• The Institute of Law and Academic Studies Limited

CTS College was duly represented by Suzette Matterson (Centre), Rachael Collymore and Richard Barbour.

The winners received $3,000 each to invest in the stock market, courtesy the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange, Fire HD 8” Tablets, medals and certificates of participation. CTS College received the challenge trophy, a champion trophy and bragging rights. Each participant also received a certificate of participation.

Last year, CTS College was a finalist in the Tertiary Level Debates Competition hosted by the Integrity Commission of Trinidad and Tobago.

The accomplishment, training and mentoring would not have been possible without our prolific coach Dr. Rachael Cox, whose commitment to the team’s preparation and performance deserves mentionable praise and gratitude.
