In today’s world, more and more businesses and individuals are embracing social media to promote and market a product/service (or themselves), engage with customers, gauge consumer trends, and offer customer support and services. Social media platforms are great tools; however, many persons are not equipped with the knowledge of how to write for specific social networking sites.

We will also examine explore how writing for social media differs greatly from traditional media, as well as how to keep the attention of your audience and how to engage them.

This course is designed to keep up with trends as social media is constantly evolving, so you can beat the competition in your next online post and get the attention you deserve.

  • Class Assignment: write a LinkedIn or Instagram post using the best practices discussed.

  • Quiz 1 – Online questionnaire (10 questions maximum) worth 20% of final grade (24 hours to complete)

  • Best practices for titles and subheadings
  • Blogging and editorial planning
  • How to use keywords to improve SEO
  • Final Project: Section One: 60%

Assessment

The course combines a number of teaching techniques including lectures, real time feedback, online quizzes, class assignments, presentations and a final project.

Facilitator

Bibi Khan holds a master’s degree in Mass Communications; a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and an Associate Degree in Journalism/Public Relations. She has over 16 years combined experience in Media and Corporate Communications and previously worked at the Fifth Summit of the Americas and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2009, and the Ministry of Education.

In her current position with Lonsdale Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Limited, she supports clients such as McDonald’s Trinidad, Massy Stores, Touchstone Exploration, Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) and much, much more.

She is currently the Director of Membership and Engagement of the Public Relations Association of Trinidad and Tobago (PRATT).
