Spanish Conversation for Beginners

Overview

Introduction

Do you want to improve your job prospects, enhance your travel experience, communicate with Spanish speakers at home or abroad or even immerse yourself in another culture? Look no further than the Spanish language! It's Trinidad's second most spoken, and most widely taught, non-English language. It's also the country's fastest growing language.

This course gradually introduces participants to basic Spanish conversation through a series of interactive sessions that incorporates the use of audio-visual aids, fun activities and games.

What do I need for this course?

• A personal goal linked to the language learning process would be the ideal element to fuel your will. That does not mean that you cannot take this course just out of curiosity or with the sole intention of starting a new hobby.
• A passion for language learning and other cultures

Note: This course is intended for persons with minimal/no knowledge of the Spanish Language.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this introductory course, students will gain a better understanding of the following skills in Spanish:

• Asking and replying to questions about basic personal information (name, age, birthday)
• Talk about likes and dislikes, every day preferences
• Give instructions on how to perform a certain activity
• Introducing yourself and someone else
• Greeting someone in a formal and informal context
• Forming simple sentences
• Speaking in the negative
• Using the present tense
• Using essential verbs in Spanish
• Asking for and giving directions
• Expressing quantities and telling time

Assessment

Weekly Challenges

There will be four (4) major activities (1 per week) intended to test each student's knowledge of the course content in a light, fun way.

Continuous Assessment

Students will be required to complete a variety of individual and group exercises to apply skills and knowledge acquired during class sessions.

Certification

Students will receive a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the course.

Learning a language is not just learning how to communicate, but it enables the learner to understand and perceive reality from a different perspective. Intrigued by the mysteries that surround language and possessing a deep passion for foreign languages, Ms. Varsha Chotoo decided to study Spanish and Portuguese with the goal of attaining native-like precision and fluency. She enjoys teaching languages as much as she enjoys speaking them and is always delighted to share these passions with anyone. She is an experienced language teacher who has taught Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and English as a Foreign Language at all levels. This, together with her patience, passion and determination to help students realize their language learning potentials, make her the ideal facilitator for this Spanish conversation course.
