Overview

The Early Childhood Care and Education course offered at CTS College will allow you to start career in Early Childhood Care and Education at an entry level. You will acquire the necessary skills to plan, implement and evaluate early childhood programmes, while working within legal and industry requirements. You will also learn how to support children’s growth and development in a safe, comfortable, healthy and diverse setting, while promoting learning through a curriculum that guides the physical environment and social relationships with families and communities.

Entry Requirements

In order to register for this course, students should possess any of the following:

  • 3 CXC/CSEC Passes – Grades 1, 2 or 3 OR
  • Be 18 years and over with knowledge of basic computer skills

  • Communicating appropriately with clients and colleagues

3: Law and Governance for Early Childhood Institutions

  • Requirements for early childhood in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Policies and procedures for the EC institution
  • The fundamentals of entrepreneurship

4: The Learning Environment

  • The components of an early childhood learning environment
  • Making learning resources for beginners
  • The fundamentals of setting up the EC environment
  • Play based learning

5: Principles of Development in Young Children

  • Growth and development in the early years
  • Developmental learning theories
  • Holistic development and the young child

6: Health, Safety and Nutrition

  • Standards for promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Nutrition for early learners
  • Safety and the EC setting
  • Health and safety regulations and policies in Trinidad and Tobago

7: Fieldwork/Practicum

  • Two day field visit

Delivery Mode

Online and Face-to-Face Classes

This course will be delivered via a combination of live online and face-to-face classes.

Online Classes: Students will be provided with a link to join the class as well as other relevant instructions at least one day before the start of each class. These classes are also recorded - therefore students have the option to review the course content as often as they like.

Face-to-Face Classes: Students would be expected to attend the classes at the designated location.

Assessment

Students would be required to complete the following assessment(s) for this course:

  • Weekly discussion forums
  • Weekly assessments based on content
  • In person practical assessments
  • Two written exams
  • Fieldwork/Practicum assessment

Certification

In order to receive the CTS College certificate of completion or participation for this course, students must attend a minimum of 75% of classes and pay any outstanding fees. Where applicable, students who do not meet the necessary assessment requirements, but attended the required number of classes would receive a CTS College certificate of participation.

Cost

This course is offered at the affordable price of $2,500. In order to start the course, students must pay a minimum of 50% before the first class.

Payment Plans

Ms. Moona not only imparts knowledge, but creates a learning experience where students feel valued and appreciated. She is also committed to shaping a transformative learning journey and creating an educational adventure that goes beyond the ordinary.

Ms. Sally Moona possesses over 12 years’ experience in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education and Primary Education. She has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development and Family Studies and specialised in primary education. Ms. Moona also completed a Post Graduate award in Strategic Planning as well as a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Teaching and Learning with Emerging Technologies.

Along with these qualifications, Ms. Moona completed several certifications in Crafting Online Instruction, Teaching English as a Second Language, Content and Language for Integrated Learning, Learning Recovery and Enhancement Programme, School Leadership Training Course and Special Needs Education for Early Learners.
