Course Content

The following would be covered in this course:

1: Understanding behavioural Challenges

This module focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of various emotional and behavioural disorders that children may experience. It covers the symptoms, causes and potential impacts on behaviour and functioning. The emphasis is on increasing awareness and knowledge about different types of disorders.

2: Building Positive Relationships

This module emphasises the importance of building strong, positive relationships between parents/caregivers and children. It focuses on fostering empathy, understanding individual differences and creating a supportive environment that promotes emotional and behavioural well-being. The emphasis is on relationship-building and communication skills.

3: behavioural Assessment and Goal Setting

This module teaches parents and caregivers how to assess children's behaviours, identify specific challenges related to emotional and behavioural disorders and set meaningful goals for intervention and support. It provides tools and techniques for gathering information, prioritising needs and collaborating with professionals. The emphasis is on assessment and goal-setting skills.

4: Positive behaviour Support Strategies

This module explores evidence-based strategies for promoting positive behaviours and addressing challenging behaviours associated with emotional and behavioural disorders. It covers techniques such as behaviour management strategies, reinforcement systems and proactive intervention approaches. The emphasis is on practical behaviour support strategies.

5: Emotional Regulation and Coping Skills

This module focuses on equipping parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to help children develop essential emotional regulation and coping skills. Participants will learn strategies to support children in managing their emotions and coping with stress in healthy ways. Topics covered include teaching self-regulation techniques, problem-solving skills and relaxation strategies to enhance emotional resilience and well-being.

6: Collaborating with Professionals

This module provides guidance on how to collaborate effectively with professionals involved in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioural disorders in children. It covers topics such as accessing mental health services, advocating for appropriate interventions and navigating the healthcare system. The emphasis is on collaboration with professionals and accessing support services.

Delivery Mode

Online Classes

This course will be delivered via live online classes. Students will be provided with a link to join the class as well as other relevant instructions at least one day before the start of each class. These classes are also recorded - therefore students have the option to review the course content as often as they like.

Additional Info

Assessment

Students would be required to complete the following assessment(s) for this course:

  • In-class participation and collaboration (10%)
  • Continuous assessment: Weekly guided reflective journal (30%)
  • Final project (60%)

Note: The passing grade for this course is 75%.

Certification

In order to receive the CTS College certificate of completion or participation for this course, students must attend a minimum of 75% of classes and pay any outstanding fees. Where applicable, students who do not meet the necessary assessment requirements, but attended the required amount of classes would receive a CTS College certificate of participation.

Mrs. Hannah Sammy, a UK-trained intervention specialist and practitioner at Holistic Learning Center Limited, boasts over a decade of experience in special and inclusive education. She offers psychoeducational support and educational therapy for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Mrs. Sammy's expertise extends to collaborating with clinical psychologists to integrate psycho-educational interventions with behavioural and psychological approaches. She has also contributed to teacher-training initiatives and workshop facilitation for NGOs, tertiary education and in-service teachers. Her dedication to education, advocacy and training in Trinidad & Tobago shines through in her work.
